As a member of British Wood Preserving and Damp Proofing Association (BWPDA), our family owned business has been carrying out installations since 1959.
Radon membranes are a key component in the prevention of radon gas infiltration in buildings, particularly in areas where radon levels in the soil are high. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can seep into buildings through cracks in foundations, walls, and floors, posing health risks over prolonged exposure. Radon membranes are specially designed barriers made from durable, impermeable materials, such as high-density polyethylene (HDPE), that are installed beneath or within the building’s foundation to block the gas from entering the structure.
These membranes are typically used in new constructions but can also be retrofitted to existing buildings during renovation or remediation work. When properly installed, radon membranes form a continuous seal that prevents radon from penetrating, while also being compatible with radon ventilation systems that help expel any trapped gas safely to the outside. The membranes will also function as an effective damp-proofing barrier in the floor build-up.
